Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa / SANAA Architecture & Environment

“Architecture and Environment” has been a central theme of SANAA’s architectural practice and a subject of continuous exploration. Rather than existing as objects that divide inside from outside or establish boundaries, buildings are conceived as places that connect human activities with their surrounding environment.

This exhibition focuses on “Architecture and Environment,” presenting the design practices of SANAA, Kazuyo Sejima & Associates, and Office of Ryue Nishizawa.

The activities of these three practices have influenced and extended into one another, exploring the relationship between environment and architecture, as well as the ways in which this relationship can be realized through different architectural projects. At the same time, the exhibition looks back from the early years of the practices to the present, tracing how their understanding of “Architecture and Environment,” as well as their design methods and approaches to realization, have evolved over time.

Through architectural works from different periods, regions, and scales, the exhibition explores how architecture establishes relationships with its environment, inviting visitors to reconsider the connections between architecture, human activities, and the environments in which we live.
