Memory × Nature|3/29 – Mapping Memory from a Flight Perspective
In this session, cultural historian Lin Tsung-Te will guide participants through the transformation of the Shuinan Airport site into today’s Central Park. Beginning at the historic machine gun bunker, the tour traces the site’s evolution—from rice paddies and tobacco fields in the Qing dynasty, to the construction of the airport during the Japanese era, wartime fortifications built in response to U.S. air raids, and later its development into a civil aviation hub. Through these layered narratives, participants will discover the intertwined histories of the airport and the Taichung Art Museum.
Echoing the themes of the opening exhibition Invitation of All Things, this journey invites participants to reflect on the relationships between land, memory, and history. The tour will conclude in the exhibition gallery, where participants can observe how contemporary artworks respond to themes of flight, place, and transformation.
In the second part of the program, artist Wang Hsiu-Ju will lead a hands-on workshop using printmaking and mixed media. Drawing from historical maps and aerial images of the Green Museumbrary site, participants will create their own layered “memory maps” of Shuinan—blending past and present into a personal cartography of place.
