About the Museum

Architectural Features
The Taichung Green Museumbrary (referred to as the Green Museumbrary below) is situated in the northern part of the Taichung Central Park (referred to as the Central Park below). The Green Museumbrary is designed by Tokyo-based architectural firm SANAA, founded by Sejima Kazuyo and Nishizawa Ryue, in collaboration withRicky Liu & Associates Architects+Planners from Taiwan. It is a cultural institution complex housing the Taichung Art Museum and the Taichung Public Library. The Taichung Green Museumbrary consists of eight independent but interconnected cubes, forming an integrated space for the art museum and library. This fusion of knowledge and art shapes new cultural value and forms. Considering Taichung’s pleasant climate, parts of the building are elevated to create shaded semi-outdoor plazas. This connection with nature introduces greenery and wind, fostering a comfortable cultural and artistic space. This contemporary art museum features a 27-meter-high glass exhibition hall, along with permanent and special exhibition galleries. It engages with the local community and supports young artists, serving as a key hub for contemporary art and local art exchange in Taichung. Within the Green Museumbrary, 14 steel staircases are designed as sculptural elements. These stairs facilitate movement and enhance spatial dynamics and visual appeal. The balance between the architectural structure and graceful design showcases Taiwan’s remarkable steel staircase manufacturing technology. This is Taiwan's first cultural venue to integrate service design into digital experiences. The digital content reflects the architectural concepts of integration, connection, and encounter, while creating an exploratory journey that blends virtual and real elements, connecting the museum-library complex and establishing a new paradigm of cultural architecture.
