【7.27 _ TCC ↔️Taichung Green Museumbrary ↔️TCC ↔️Taichung Green Museumbrary】

The Taichung Green Museumbrary was designed by Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa / SANAA in collaboration with Ricky Liu & Associates from Taiwan. Initially referred to as the Taichung City Cultural Center (TCC), this session invites architects from SANAA involved in the project to guide the public in exploring how architects, users, and cultural differences impacted the architectural and design developments of the Green Museumbrary.

【8.25 _ Post-Natural Landscapes in Public Spaces】

From greening to symbiosis and sustainability, cities and nature continually blend to create new possibilities. Human interaction with various species has resulted in diverse urban landscapes and shaped distinct civic cultures. This session invites landscape and architectural scholars to explore the novel landscapes emerging from the intersection of second nature, urban ecology, design, and cultural spaces through case studies that include Taiwan’s coastline as a bridge between humans and nature, urban wilderness, and the design competition for Taichung Central Park.

【9.14 _ Art Dialogues between Children and Nature】

Nestled in the northern part of Taichung Central Park, the Taichung Art Museum is surrounded by lush greenery. This session invites children’s art educators and designers to share their experiences guiding children in exploring their environment through art. By gathering natural materials, experimenting with different media, and engaging the body and the five senses, children ignite their imagination and discover new artistic possibilities.

Chiang Hsun is a painter, poet, writer, and the founding chair of the Department of Fine Arts at Tunghai University. In this talk, Chiang will share his aesthetic experiences related to Taichung and his observations about the art ecology in central Taiwan, inviting everyone to appreciate the vibrant aesthetics of Taichung.

【11.9 _ The Development of Central Taiwan’s Art History】

Art museums play a vital role in preserving artistic knowledge and serve as essential platforms for promoting art and culture. The Taichung Art Museum actively deepens the roots of central Taiwan’s art history, broadening contemporary aesthetic perspectives while engaging with global contemporary art trends and ideas. This talk aims to define the distinct identity of central Taiwan’s art by exploring the interactions and interconnections between art history, art sociology, and contemporary aesthetics, analyzing the spatial and cultural displacements occurring during urbanization from the Japanese colonial era to the present, while re-evaluating the uniqueness of central Taiwan’s art history.

【11.30 _ Bilateral Approaches to Connecting Art Museums and Cities】

The Towada Art Center is an integral part of “Arts Towada,” an initiative launched by Towada City. Designed by internationally renowned architect Nishizawa Ryue, the center’s architecture invites the public to experience art in an open and engaging environment. Director Washida Meruro, who took office in April 2020 and previously contributed to the founding of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, will share insights from that experience and present innovative strategies for fostering community engagement and strengthening the Towada Art Center’s connection with the city.
